JBL rigorous testing lab includes the following tests on the MR31

THE RAIN TEST: Water runs over the face of a "splash-proof" radio at the rate of two gallons (8 litres) a minute to ensure quality performance even under the harshest water conditions.

THE CHEMICAL TEST: Since JBL is a prime supplier to the Spa industry, we use high doses of chemicals such as chlorine and bromine to test products to ensure their durability in severe conditions.

THE SHOCK TEST: This motion test is used to mimic the conditions that a radio might encounter. Whether it's a strong jolt during the shipping process or the frequent vibration of waves once installed in a boat, these radios are ready to stand up to the roughest conditions.

THE HUMIDITY TEST: Using a chamber that reaches 65 C. Heat and moisture inside a tank are used to duplicate the conditions of a boat that may be stored under a cover while still damp.

The MR31Silver is True Marine Audio with "Water Resistant Face"
While some manufacturers simply put automotive equipment in a box marked "marine", Prospec's JBL components are thoroughly developed for the marine environment.
Circuit boards are encapsulated in a newly developed PUC moisture coating which dramatically improves reliability. Unlike the coating used by most companies in the marine industry, PUC coating is visible under a black light.
This makes it possible to visually inspect every unit to make sure that the circuit board has been fully covered!

All of our new JBL stereos now also offer Electronic Shock Protection!
ESP
is a brand new innovation for the marine industry. It basically works like a computer hard drive:  It temporarily spins a CD at a faster rate than normal, giving it the ability to copy and store the music ahead of time.
That storage acts as a buffer, so when the boat encounters a large jolt, the skipping is virtually eliminated!
